Stop Giving Eventbrite Your Attendee Data

Stop giving Eventbrite your attendee data. We’ve had a number of fed-up Eventbrite customers reach out following the announcement of our Eventbrite Migration Assistance Program. One event organizer expressed his frustration that Eventbrite sends marketing emails for other events to his attendees.

Today, I (Allison, VP of Product at TicketSignup) received two marketing emails from Eventbrite. While these emails didn’t make it into my inbox, I dug into my Promotions folder after hearing about the frustrated Eventbrite organizer because earlier this summer, I registered for a free tech happy hour networking event in Philadelphia on Eventbrite.

The first email featured seven in-person events happening in the Philadelphia/New York region this weekend, a summer festival guide, two virtual Eventbrite collections, and three individual online events, including a Perfume 101 course. The second email I received about three hours later promoted food & drink experiences with two featured events and seven links to filtered event search results.

First, this is an overwhelming number of events for any person to digest, let alone attend. These events are also fairly unrelated to the one I most recently attended, so the marketing emails do not feel curated to event goers. This dilutes the value of Eventbrite’s paid marketing services.

Most importantly, Eventbrite owns and uses the attendee data of every event on its platform. By selling tickets on Eventbrite, you give them your attendees’ data. In turn, Eventbrite sells that data (and your event page traffic) to other events in several ways. First, they sell ad space to other events on your event page. Additionally, they feature events that pay for marketing in Eventbrite search results. And finally, they promote events in marketing emails like the one above.

Stop letting Eventbrite control your attendee data. At TicketSignup, your attendee data remains yours. We don’t promote other events to your attendees, email them about competing events, or place ads for other events on your event website. Instead we give you free and unlimited Email Marketing and free Websites. Plus hundreds of other free features that help you sell more tickets and cut costs. Discover why events choose TicketSignup over Eventbrite, and see how seamlessly they have migrated to TicketSignup.
